Sight Testing |
The Basic Eye Exam | ||||||
![]() |
Your
eye care provider takes medical information to begin an examination. During
the examination, visual acuity, eye movements and refraction are
assessed. A refraction
determines the extent of a patient's refrective error (nearsightedness,
farsightedness, astigmatism) The results lead to the proper prescription
for eyeglasses or contact lenses. The patient's eyes are looking through an instrument called a Phoropter, which resembles a very large pair of binoculars. Lenses with dioptric power are placed before the eyes until the patient sees as clearly as possible. This final combination of lenses determines the patient's prescription.* |
